
The former minister’s decision to join the party also ended speculation of his future in Umno which is investigating him for allegedly speaking up against the party.
Prior to the May 9 polls, Rais, who was also the government’s adviser for social and cultural affairs, had launched a stinging attack on Umno, saying its leaders were arrogant.
In an open letter to Umno information chief Annuar Musa, the veteran politician said party leaders were out of touch and unable to accept criticism.
The former Jelebu MP had also spoken out against Putrajaya on matters such as 1MDB as well as the Anti-Fake News Act.
Party founder Dr Mahathir Mohamad presented Rais with the party membership card during a buka puasa event here this evening.
The prime minister, who is also the PPBM chairman, had earlier given a speech to party members.
