“The situation is not that serious. We will just wait here and ask him to come and record his statement,” police chief Ramli Din told reporters.
He said it was believed that the former chief minister had not been in Kota Kinabalu or Sabah since May 14, after he left for Kuala Lumpur to attend a party meeting.
Ramli said police could not issue an arrest warrant because they only needed to record Musa’s statement relating to a report lodged against him by head of state Juhar Mahiruddin.
“We can wait. We will see how it goes. We have tried to contact him through a few channels to persuade him to come back so we can record his statement,” he said.
Musa’s aides had assured police that he would return and cooperate with police although no timeframe had been given.
Ramli confirmed he had spoken to Musa on one occasion after the police report was lodged. He refused to comment further.
The report against Musa is being investigated as one of criminal intimidation.
Musa, who is chairman of Sabah Barisan Nasional and Sabah Umno, had been sworn in as chief minister after two STAR assemblymen switched support to BN, breaking a deadlock with Parti Warisan and Pakatan Harapan.
However, five from BN switched support giving the Warisan-PH coalition the majority, and Musa was asked to resign.
Shafie Apdal of Warisan has taken office as chief minister and formed a new state government.
