Najib steps down as Khazanah chairman

Johari Abdul Ghani and Irwan Irwan Serigar Abdullah also resigned as board members, says sovereign wealth fund.

Former prime minister Najib Razak resigned from Khazanah’s board today.

Former Prime Minister Najib Razak has resigned as chairman of Khazanah Nasional Berhad’s board today.

In a brief statement, the sovereign wealth fund also announced the resignation of former second finance minister Johari Abdul Ghani from its board. He tendered his resignation on May 30.

Former Treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah also quit as a Khazanah board member on May 23.

Irwan had also resigned as a board member of Tabung Haji and Bank Negara.

Earlier today, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng hinted that it was “only fit and proper” for the former prime minister to resign from Khazanah’s board.

Khazanah is administered by the Minister of Finance Inc.

Some of the key listed companies in Khazanah’s investment portfolio include Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, CIMB Group, Axiata Group Bhd, IHH Healthcare Bhd, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd and UEM Sunrise Bhd.
