Tee, who was deputy speaker in the previous state assembly, said he informed party president Joseph Kurup of his decision on May 25 but only managed to hand over his letter to the PBRS headquarters yesterday.
“He (Kurup) has acknowledged my resignation,” he said in a statement today.
“I have come to this conclusion after very serious thought and soul-searching.
“In the name of welfare and unity among Sabahans and Malaysians, I believe this is my best move to support the government of the day,” he said.
PBRS pulled out from BN on May 12 after the coalition’s defeat by Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the federal level. In Sabah, BN lost the election to an alliance formed by Parti Warisan Sabah and PH.
Kurup said the party had applied to join PH. However, Sabah PH chairperson Christina Liew said she had received no such application from PBRS.
Meanwhile, two PBRS division chairmen and its members have also quit the party.
The PBRS Tamparuli and Sulaman divisions are technically dissolved following the resignation of their respective chairmen, Handry Luaran and Suhardi Suyatin.
“We are following in the footsteps of Datuk Dr Johnson Tee who has recently resigned as PBRS secretary-general and quit the party at the same time.
“We are awaiting further instructions from him (Tee) as to our next course of action.”
