Amier, who is also state PPBM chief, said Perlis voters had had an epiphany following the revolt by the “BN 9” and now had a change of heart, buoyed by the exposé of national scandals by the former BN federal government.
The “BN 9” refers to nine state assembly members who were against Perlis ruler Raja Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalulail swearing-in BN’s Azlan Man as menteri besar for a second term.
“It is better to have a re-election. Since BN is fighting against each other and there is a stalemate now, the people are at a loss, without a proper running government in place.
“A re-election would bring balance to the state. And BN would likely lose with the number of scandals being exposed in the media today.
“When the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima, the Japanese army surrendered. The revolting BN assemblymen should take heed of this and do the honourable thing…resign. Just withdraw for the peoples’ sake,” he told FMT.
Amier said many voters had now regretted voting for BN and did not mind having a re-election to place PH in power.
“Most want progress in the state, and with PH controlling the federal government now, they know we can bring progress to them,” he said.
The political dilemma in Perlis erupted following the May 9 general election, where BN won 10 of the 15 state assembly seats but failed to elect a menteri besar agreeable to all quarters.
The “BN 9” boycotted the swearing-in ceremony yesterday, angering the Perlis ruler. The ceremony was attended by the five Pakatan Harapan and PAS assemblymen.
However, none of the other nine BN assemblymen attended the ceremony, sparking outrage from the state’s ruler.
Perlis BN chairman Shahidan Kassim, who is also a former Perlis menteri besar, has told Umno headquarters to fire Azlan from the party.
He also criticised the state’s ruler for allegedly interfering with the state’s administration.
