Hours after swearing-in, Umno sacks Perlis MB

It comes after Shahidan Kassim warns the Perlis ruler against interfering in the state's political impasse.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Fresh from his appointment as the Perlis menteri besar at the state palace today, the state Umno announced Azlan Man’s sacking from the party.

This comes after the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail criticised the nine other Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen for boycotting the swearing-in ceremony this morning.

This was followed by Perlis Umno chief Shahidan Kassim lashing out at Azlan for accepting the MB post, saying he has no support from BN state representatives.

Shahidan also advised the Perlis ruler to stay out of the state’s political crisis, while urging Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to intervene.

Perlis is one of only two states won by BN in the recent polls, winning 10 of the 15 state seats.

It is unlikely Azlan can continue as the MB, as he will need support from at least seven assemblymen in the 15-seat state assembly.
