PETALING JAYA:
A lawyer acting for Najib Razak had denied a news report that the former prime minister lodged a police report to obtain protection for fear of threats to his life.

“There was no report lodged by Datuk Seri Najib,” Hasnal Rezua Merican told FMT today.

China Press had earlier quoted sources as saying that Najib had made the report because of threats to his life. The Malay Mail also reported that Najib had lodged a report with Sentul police yesterday.

At press time FMT was unable to obtain confirmation from Sentul police.

The report said he had asked the police to ensure the safety of himself and his family.

China Press, quoting sources, also said Najib had complained that the police had seized cash, jewellery and personal items belonging to himself and his family that had no relation with the investigation on 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Some of the items were gifts from friends, while money found by police constituted political funds received by Barisan Nasional for its general election campaign.

Najib’s home in Taman Duta here has been cordoned off by police since early on Thursday while a thorough search was conducted on the premises by federal commercial crime and anti-money laundering units.

Three apartments at Pavilion Residences, two of which belong to his children, were also searched, as were Najib’s former office at the Prime Minister’s Department and the official residence of the prime minister.
