“As far as we’re concerned, it’s all over,” said Harpal Singh Grewal to reporters waiting outside Najib’s private residence in Langgak Duta.
Najib’s home had been cordoned off by police since early on Thursday and a thorough search conducted of the premises by the federal police officers of the commercial crime unit and anti-money laundering unit.
Three apartments at Pavilion Residences, two of which belong to his children Norashman (Ashman) and Nooryana Najwa (known as Gina), were also searched, as were Najib’s former office at the Prime Minister’s Department and the official residence of the prime minister.
Harpal said Najib was disappointed with the indiscriminate manner his children’s personal belongings had been seized.
He said the police had made no attempts to verify whether the seized items were linked to the investigations.
“Those dresses seized from Najwa’s house, as well as shoes and baby clothes had nothing to do with the investigations. Both of them are not in any way linked with 1MDB or any of the companies being investigated.”
Harpal said Ashman’s personal belongings such as old mobile phones, iPads, and a laptop were seized and his assistant’s watches and laptop were also taken.
Harpal said the clothes and shoes seized from Gina’s house had been bought or were presents to her over the years. The search of Gina’s condominium was done in her absence and only her maid was present, he said.
He pointed out that Najib’s children were gainfully employed, while Gina’s husband is a successful businessman and comes from a well-to-do family.
