Wan Rosdy is new Pahang MB

Jelai state assemblyman Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail was sworn in as the new Pahang menteri besar for two years or until an approved period in place of former MB Adnan Yaakob, Bernama reported today.

The swearing-in ceremony was held before Pahang Regent Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at the Balairong Seri Istana Abu Bakar here this afternoon.

Wan Rosdy, who was formerly state housing and local government committee chairman, had been Jelai assemblyman since 2004.

In the 14th general election (GE14) held recently, Wan Rosdi won with a majority of 3,507 votes after polling 5,858 votes to beat candidates from PAS, PKR and PSM.

Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah and Tengku Muda Pahang Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah also graced the occasion.

In GE14, BN won 25 state seats to obtain a simple majority to form the state government. PH obtained nine seats and PAS eight seats.

Earlier, Adnan, who won the Pelangai state seat for the eighth consecutive term, was expected to be reinstated as MB for the fifth term.

Wan Rosdy received his early education at the Clifford Primary School (1965), Sekolah Menengah Clifford and Sekolah Menengah Mahmud Raub before pursuing a Diploma in Commerce at the Institut Teknologi Mara (ITM).

He then pursued his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science (Hons) (Political Science) at Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Wan Rosdy began his career in the civil service as an executive with the Perak branch of the National Padi and Rice Board (LPN) in 1985, before being appointed as a manager at the LPN complex in Arau, Perlis, in 1989.

He also held several other posts, including manager at Bernas in Jertih, Terengganu (1999) and senior manager at Bernas in Sungai Ranggam, Perak (2000).

In 2004, Wan Rosdy was elected as Jelai state assemblyman and he has been serving the constituency since.

He has also served as chairman of the Pahang Orang Asli Affairs and Rural Development Committee, from 2008 to 2013, before being appointed as state exco for a second term as Pahang housing and municipal council committee chairman in 2013.

Wan Rosdy was elected as Cameron Highlands Umno division chief in 2003 and Cameron Highlands BN chairman in 2008.

Married to Burhah Mohamed, 58, the couple have three children.

Those chosen to be state executive councillors are:

Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin (Lanchang), Shahaniza Shamsuddin (Kuala Sentul), Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad (Kerdau), Norol Azali Sulaiman (Guai), Johari Hussein (Tioman), Nazri Ngah (Pulau Tawar, new face), Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff (Bebar, new face), and Abd Rahim Muda (Lepar, new face).

Those dropped from the exco are: Adnan (Pelangai), Shahiruddin Ab Moin (Dong), Shafik Fauzan Shariff (Inderapura), and Abu Bakar Harun (Chini).
