In January 2016, the 1MDB audit report was submitted to Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
However, it was classified under the Official Secrets Act and MPs in the PAC were later only allowed to study the report but not release any of its details.
It was used as the basis for the eventual PAC report on 1MDB, which was presented to the Dewan Rakyat on April 7, 2016.
However, the 1MDB audit report was not presented together with the PAC report, leaving many opposition MPs questioning the need to classify it under the OSA.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Auditor-General’s report into 1MDB would be declassified.
“I’ve given instructions to the police to remove the restrictions from the OSA and they will submit the report to me and I will study it,” he said at a press conference after naming senior members of the new Cabinet.
