ALOR SETAR:
PKR is set to get the lion’s share in the Kedah exco lineup, said Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

Mukhriz said this was because PKR had won the most number of seats in Kedah from among the four Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties.

The Kedah PH chairman said the pact held a meeting last night and they discussed extensively on the appointment of state executive councillors and what they needed to do to fulfil their promises to the people.

“The 10 positions have been agreed upon by all four PH component parties.

“We will make an announcement in the near future, followed by the swearing-in ceremony,” he said at a press conference after clocking in to work at Wisma Darulaman here today.

In the recently-concluded 14th general election (GE14), PH secured 18 out of the 36 state seats, with PKR winning seven, PPBM five, Amanah four and DAP two.

PAS won 15 seats, while BN was reduced to a mere three seats from the 20 they had previously held.

BN successfully retained the seats of Guar Chempedak, Sungai Tiang and Bandar Baharu, through former senior excos Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail, Suraya Yaacob and Norsabrina Mohd Noor respectively.

Mukhriz, who is PPBM deputy president, said the appointment of the state assembly speaker and deputy speaker was more complicated but they would find a solution.

“We do not want to prolong politicking any more because for over two years we have been focused on political matters and service to the rakyat was neglected.

“It is time for all of us, government and opposition, to be united to provide service to the people.”
