It is understood that Dzulkifli, who was appointed to the post two years ago, sent his resignation letter to Chief Secretary to the Government, Ali Hamsa, this morning.
Dzulkifli previously headed the National Revenue Recovery Enforcement Team at the Attorney-General’s Chambers, before taking over from Abu Kassim Mohamed in 2016.
It is understood that Dzulkifli will have to serve one month’s notice. Attempts to reach MACC for further information were unsuccessful.
It is also understood that Dzulkifli’s letter has been submitted to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Just yesterday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he supported Mahathir’s call to replace MACC’s top brass as part of reforms to ensure confidence is restored in the country’s anti-graft body.
There had been calls for Dzulkifli to resign over claims of an affair with a married woman, after videos surfaced of the alleged couple together on holiday.
Investigations into the matter were carried out by the police, with questions also raised about Dzulkifli’s alleged expensive vacations to Bali and Hong Kong.
In an immediate reaction, MACC honorary commissioner Ramon Navaratnam said he was surprised at the news.
“I’m sure he has a good reason to resign,” he told FMT, adding that he had been trying to reach Dzulkifli since morning but to no avail.
“Maybe like other people, he too was under pressure.”
