Other factors for favouring PH were that their assemblymen were from all communities and that Pakatan Harapan is in control of the federal government.
Constitutional convention provides that a menteri besar without a majority must seek royal approval to dissolve the assembly or resign.
PAS, which won three seats, holds the balance in the 59-member assembly as Perak PH (28) and Barisan Nasional (27) are both short of a majority.
Perak Royal Council member Mohd Annuar Zaini said the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, had given deadlines to both parties – 10am for BN, and 2pm for PH – to show that they command a majority.
Mohd Annuar said “PH has 29 seats, so Sultan Nazrin has offered them the first choice to form the new state government, with the condition that they have 30 assemblymen.
Sri Ram said any suggestion that PH should seek the support of additional assemblymen might only encourage corruption.
