BN deputy chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said opposition parties might launch a campaign of lies and said: “We are not good at slandering others or making personal attacks … Let us win this election in style”.
Zahid warned Barisan Nasional campaigners to be prepared for a surprise attack from the opposition in the two days before political parties must end their campaigns. Polling day is on May 9.
He said he had noted that opposition parties appeared to be concealing something, as the campaign period entered the ninth day today.
He said the opposition would love to launch last-minute attacks with various defamation and lies, but he warned them that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the police would take action against them.
“Anything can happen on both sides, either the opposition or the BN, within the next remaining 48 hours,” he said, urging those helping the BN campaign to “not look back, left or right, until we get to the finish line”
He said they should take advantage of the remaining time to win the minds and hearts of the people.
Go out to the voters…reach the fence sitters, and it will be a bonus,” said Zahid after meeting members of the the Indian community.
BN’s approach was to campaign in small groups, through face-to-face interactions and through conventional and online media, he said.
Zahid seeks re-election to a sixth term as Bagan Datuk MP. His challenger is Madhi Hasan (PKR) who is making a second attempt at unseating Zahid. At the two previous elections Zahid was returned by a majority of more than 2,000 votes each time.
