Radio DJ pleads not guilty to possession of firearms

Abdul Aziz Mohamed Desa is charged with the unlawful possession of a German-made Walther semi-auto and seven rounds of ammunition.

A presenter at a local radio station pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to two counts of unlawful possession of a pistol and seven bullets.

Abdul Aziz Mohamed Desa, 47, who is with Perak FM, made the plea after the charges were read out to him before judge Rohaida Ishak.

On the first count, he was charged with the unlawful possession of a German-made Walther semi-auto at KM28, Kampung Bahagia, Sungai Siput Utara near here at about 8.30am on April 26.

The charge, under the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, provides imprisonment for up to 14 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Abdul Aziz was also charged with unlawful possession of seven rounds of ammunition at the same place, date and time, for which he faces imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both if found guilty under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960.

The court allowed him bail of RM8,000 in one surety for both charges and set June 1 for mention.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Hasyutantee Khalil, while Abdul Aziz was unrepresented.
