Their spokesman Rizal Bakar said he received the audio clips and a screenshot of the WhatsApp chat about a week ago, saying they were left on his car windscreen.

“I want him to answer if it is true or not. Whatever his reply, we will have another press conference in 36 hours,” he told reporters here.

The WhatsApp conversation was purportedly in July last year.

In an immediate reaction, Mat Sabu said he was not surprised by the allegations.

“This happens at every general election. They will always have something against me. But it doesn’t not stop my resolve to press ahead for a change of government,” he told FMT

Saying Mat Sabu was “my idol from the start”, Rizal said he was not accusing Mat Sabu of any sex scandals, but merely wanted him to respond.

But Rizal refused to say whether he had confronted his “idol” with the material he received.

He also avoided questions from the media on the identity of the lady in the WhatsApp chat, but said he would contact reporters, promising to send them the audio files.

Meanwhile, Mat Sabu said he will refer the matter to his lawyer for further action.

He said he also did not recognise any of the three individuals who organised the media conference.

“Probably I am among the crowd pullers at the many Pakatan Harapan rallies, so my enemies cannot stand it,” he added.
