KUALA LUMPUR:
PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has slammed Felda chairman Shahrir Samad for claiming the opposition planned to destroy Malay institutions after wresting power in the May 9 election.

He said Umno was responsible for whatever was ailing Malay institutions like Felda, Mara and Tabung Haji.

“It is sad that someone who is well educated and experienced like Shahrir can come up with such assumptions.

“If he is making such statements in order to win over Malay voters, then he should answer how Felda’s debts went up from RM933 million in 2011 to RM11.5 billion at the end of 2017,” said Rafizi.

“Their cash reserves also dwindled from RM3.9 billion in 2011 to just RM434 million last year.

“This had nothing to do with the opposition.

“In fact, had these issues not been exposed and questioned by the opposition, it could have been allowed to get even worse.”

Rafizi alleged that the deterioration of such Malay institutions was due to a culture of corruption.
