Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking said the KDM community was already united culturally, but said those in power kept saying otherwise for their own political ends.
As such, Leiking said there was an “imaginary disunity” within the community.
“There are some seven KDM-led political parties, each claiming to have the answer to all the KDM problems,” he said.
Leiking said if the parties could not find a solution to their purported “disunity”, it would be better to do away with them.
He was responding to a United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) leader who said there were disparate political groups among KDM parties in the state.
This followed Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deputy president Maximus Ongkili’s remarks welcoming the formation of a joint presidential council between PBS, Upko and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) on April 17, saying it could lead to the community being united.
The three parties are part of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN).
Leiking said Sabahans of all backgrounds should show BN that they could do without race-based political movements.
“When we are unified from the east coast, west coast and the interiors, we as Sabahans can fulfil our destiny as envisioned by our forefathers. I am a Kadazan, but a Sabahan first,” he said.
