The university’s branch campus rector, Tuan Mohd Rosli Tuan Hassan, said the letter had been “prepared without my consent and issued due to some misunderstanding”.
An image of the letter dated April 18 has been widely shared on social media.
Rosli said he only knew about the letter when contacted by the media. He told FMT: “I did not issue the letter, neither did I instruct the staff.”
He said he did not sign the letter himself and the letter bore a rubber-stamped signature. “Therefore, the instruction is cancelled,” he said.
The contents of the letter clearly stated that it was mandatory for all lecturers and non-academic staff to attend the Kelantan BN manifesto launch, which was scheduled to be held at 8pm today in Kota Bharu.
Rosli was reported earlier to have said that he only learned of the letter late last night.
“So I was shocked. What can I do? When the letter went out, I was not in the office. Of course, I didn’t sign it,” he was quoted as saying.
