Questions linger whether Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim will be contesting in GE14.
KUCHING:
Months before the dissolution of Parliament was announced, there was already talk that six-term MP Rohani Abdul Karim would be dropped by her party, PBB, for the general election (GE14).

Rohani was first elected in 1990 and if she contests in the coming GE14, it will be her seventh term.

After serving as a deputy minister since 2008, Rohani was promoted to helm the women, family and community development ministry in 2013.

It is reliably learnt that Rohani was among a few PBB elected representatives that were to be dropped by PBB president and Sarawak BN chairman Abang Johari Openg.

But the PBB president could have changed his mind after being persuaded that it would not be right to drop a woman candidate when there are so few around.

Rohani is the MP for Batang Lupar.

According to a PBB source, Rohani made an appeal to Prime Minister Najib Razak to be retained for GE14.

It is not known whether her appeal to the national BN chairman was successful or not.

However, the source said what could work in Rohani’s favour is that she has performed well as a federal minister and is also popular in her constituency.
