
He claimed that this was higher than the 45-55% support the party had recorded in the last general election in 2013.
“We surveyed about 800,000 nationwide through our Jalinan Rakyat programme and found that support has increased, especially in states such as Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan.
“This is very important for us, as it would determine if we are able to secure the ‘marginal’ seats that we almost lost in the last general election,” said Subramaniam, who is also the inncumbent in the Segamat parliamentary seat.
“This also means that we will be able to win more parliamentary seats in the coming general election,” he said after launching the party’s GE14 manifesto here.
“This manifesto is important to keep the party on the right path and to stay relevant.
“In the current political landscape, MIC faces the risk of disappearing altogether.
“Therefore, it is important that we work hard to keep MIC intact in order for it to continue to protect the Indian community,” he said.
Later, at a press conference, Subramaniam said the party was ready to counter any act of sabotage from within the BN family.
Noting the dispute with myPPP over the Cameron Highlands seat, he did not dismiss possible multi-cornered fights that could split the Indian votes further.
“Whatever they (MyPPP) decide to do, I hope it is in line with the BN spirit,” he said.
Yesterday, myPPP president M Kayveas had given an assurance that the party will not sabotage the BN candidate in Cameron Highlands, following the announcement that MIC would contest the seat again.
