At this time, she said, the words “search your conscience”, spoken by Karpal in the Dewan Rakyat on Sept 8, 2004, were the perfect reminder to Malaysians who were sceptical and who feared the unknown.
In a statement in memory of the former DAP chairman, the Batu Kawan MP added that Malaysians must remain principled and courageous enough to seek change.
Karpal, who was nicknamed “The Tiger of Jelutong” for his indomitable spirit and courage to speak the truth, died in a car accident four years ago today.
Kasthuri said Karpal had reminded lawmakers in Parliament that they were representatives of the people “to fight oppression, corruption, authoritarianism, racism, bigotry, misogyny and to put Malaysia back on its course to be a great nation again”.
However, she said, not much had changed since he spoke those words 14 years ago.

“Now, the sons and daughters of Malaysia must rise to the occasion because Malaysia needs us more than ever,” she added.
