He said PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution had on April 11 written to EC legal adviser Azizan Md Arshad for a meeting to resolve the logo usage and other issues.
“In that letter, Saifuddin also suggested that a meeting be held on April 16 but Azizan replied that he was only available after April 21,” Gobind told FMT.
He said this in response to PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s fears of an 11th hour decision by the EC to prohibit PPBM candidates from filing their nomination papers under the PKR logo.
The EC has fixed nominations for April 28.
Gobind, who is also incumbent Puchong MP, said the role of the EC was to act impartially and facilitate political parties and independents to participate in the polls without any problem.
“The EC must make itself available to explain any queries so that the elections can be conducted smoothly,” he said, adding that it must not display a lackadaisical attitude.
The lawyer said he would expect another senior officer to meet Saifuddin in the absence of Azizan.
Gobind said PH needed to be very sure on the use of the logo as it also needed to print election paraphernalia like posters, bunting and T-shirts.
“We are running out of time and hope the EC will enlighten us on the grey areas,” he said.
PH consist of PPBM, PKR, Amanah and DAP.
On April 5, the Registrar of Societies temporarily suspended PPBM as it failed to submit relevant documents as requested.
Mahathir, who is also PPBM chairman, then announced that PH candidates will use the PKR logo as a common symbol to participate in the election.
