
The source said Yew was favoured due to his performance in Wangsa Maju in the 2004 and 2008 general elections.
He won in 2004 by a 10,185-vote majority against a PKR candidate.
However, he failed to retain the seat in 2008, losing by a slim 150 votes.
In 2013, BN was defeated by over 5,000 votes when the seat was contested by a candidate from Umno.
When contacted, Yew told FMT he had heard rumours of his candidacy.
“I want to wait for confirmation before I say anything,” he added.
If nominated, Yew is likely to face a candidate from PAS as well as PKR incumbent Tan Kee Kwong, who had told FMT that he wanted to defend his seat in the election.
In the last election, Tan’s only rival was BN’s Mohd Shafei Abdullah, whom he beat by 5,511 votes.
The constituency had 67,775 voters, half of whom were Malay. Chinese voters made up 40% of the total with the remaining 10% made up of Indians and other ethnic groups.
