PETALING JAYA:
Two young women have taken umbrage with their photos being used for election posters promoting different political parties without their permission.

Wendy Lean and Nurul Aida Azira Mohd Kassim said in separate social media postings that they had not posed with the party logos as shown on the two posters, which separately promoted Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.

Both posters circulated on social media in the past few days and also received front-page treatment.

Lean said on Facebook that the photo of her and a friend, seeming supporting BN, was from a stock image taken five years ago and had been purchased by a third party from a stock-image company.

“I did not take a picture with the BN logo to encourage people to vote for them. They photoshopped it,” she said.

Nurul Aida, a university student in Shah Alam, said those involved in using her picture had crossed the limits of decency.

“You think you can just use my photo at your own whim and fancy?” she said, adding that she was so upset that she felt like verbally abusing those responsible.

Speaking to FMT later, the 19-year-old said she was shocked that her photo has been used without her approval, spread over social media and even published in a newspaper.

She said she had posed for a tudung advertisement and the image had been reused with a pro-Pakatan Harapan election message.

Nurul Aida said the original image was not shared on social media and had in fact been erased one or two months ago.

“I have no idea how the party that used it could have obtained it. It was actually taken during a photography session for a tudung brand,” she said.

She added that she did not plan to take legal action and hoped there would be an apology forthcoming.

“I do not want this issue to be blown up such that it is taken to court,” she said. “I hope the perpetrator and the relevant party do not do this again,” she added.
