Wong, who was Likas representative in the previous assembly, would not confirm nor deny a news report on his move.
He was visiting Kudat, where the state seat is situated, when contacted. “I can’t confirm or deny the report by the Borneo Post but anything is possible.”
“Perhaps we’ll know for sure before nomination day. As for who will contest in Likas, we don’t know yet, but it will be someone from DAP.”
Wong was reported as saying last week that he was not going to defend his Likas seat, after party president Shafie Apdal said that the local opposition party had formally entered a seat distribution arrangement with DAP and PKR.
Likas is a constituency within the state capital area. Wong took the seat on a DAP ticket in a four-cornered tussle, with 7,746 votes against 2,094 of his closest rival, BN’s Chin Shu Ying.
The others in the contest were SAPP president Yong Teck Lee, a former chief minister, and Ho Cheong Tshun of STAR.
