Najib: Non-Umno CM for Penang if BN wins

Barisan Nasional would uphold the principle of sharing power, says BN chairman

GEORGE TOWN:
Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president Najib Razak has given a guarantee that Penang would have a non-Umno chief minister if the BN was returned to power in the state.

Penang has been run by a DAP-led state government since 2008. Since federation in 1957, the chief minister of Penang has been held by a politician from a Chinese-based party: MCA, Gerakan, and DAP.

Speaking at an event in rural Teluk Kumbar this evening, Najib said the Barisan Nasional upheld the principle of sharing power.

“If we are given the mandate (at the coming general election) the chief minister will not be from Umno but from a component party,” he said.

He hoped Penang voters could judge for themselves whether promises of the present state government had been kept or if their lives had become poorer.
