GOLD COAST:
The six-day wait by the national contingent for a third gold medal finally ended and Negaraku was heard in the Optus Aquatic Centre today.

The pair of Cheong Jun Hoong-Pandelela Rinong displayed a focused and consistent performance to bag the gold in the 10m synchronised platform when they collected 328.08 points after five jumps.

Sharing their success were national divers Leong Mun Yee-Nur Dhabitah Sabri who claimed the bronze medal in the event with 308.16 points, their second bronze so far.

“We are happy our strategy for synchronised jumps went on well, just as we had done it during practice sessions.

“Luckily, the weather is not so windy. We just concentrated on our jumps until the end,” Pandelela said.

Olympic silver medallist Pandelela also contributed Malaysia’s first ever gold medal in diving by winning the 10m platform in the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, Jun Hoong, who was the 10m platform world champion, was happy to win her first Commonwealth gold medal.

Jun Hoong and Pandelela will return for the women’s individual 10m platform tomorrow. Also participating in the event is national junior diver Kimberly Bong.
