The Miri MP will now have to wait for a decision from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership on whether he would be defending the seat he won in 2013, when he defeated SUPP’s first-timer Sebastian Ting by 1,992 votes.
This comes after DAP’s Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei said PH top leaders would discuss today on Teo’s fate, adding that Miri voters wanted a replacement.
But Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian brushed aside the comments, saying it was DAP’s view.
Miri is the second largest city in Sarawak, and the centre of Sarawak’s petroleum industry.
The seat, with more than 70,000 voters in the last polls, is a majority Chinese constituency (57%), with 26% Malay and 17% Dayak.
Will SUPP’s Sebastian Ting unseat PKR’s Michael Teo this time in Miri?
