
Announcing that the state assembly would be dissolved tomorrow, Lim said: “The people will now have to decide if they want us as the government or another party as the new government.”
He also gave the assurance that the Penang government would not make any financial decisions after the dissolution of the state assembly tomorrow.
Lim said all official government vehicles used by him and his executive councillors will be handed back to the state on Wednesday.
“We are basically a caretaker government. So, we abide by the rules and regulations of a caretaker government. Any decisions made will be purely administrative in nature,” Lim said at Komtar today.
Present were state executive councillors, PH elected representatives, grassroots leaders and members, and government officers, including state secretary Farizan Darus.
Others included state PPBM chief Marzuki Yahya and state PKR chief Mansor Othman.
Earlier today, governor Abdul Rahman Abbas consented to the dissolution during an audience with Lim at his official residence in Seri Mutiara.
Parliament was dissolved on Saturday to pave the way for GE14.
The Election Commission has confirmed that it will hold a special meeting on Wednesday to decide on the nomination and polling dates.
Penang has 13 parliamentary and 40 state seats.
In the 2013 general election, opposition pact Pakatan Rakyat won 29 state seats to capture the state government from Barisan Nasional, which only won 10 state seats, all by Umno.
Pakatan Rakyat also won all but three federal seats, which were won by Umno.
