KOTA KINABALU:
Parti Cinta Sabah president Wilfred Bumburing maintains that the door is still open for seat negotiations with Parti Warisan Sabah, despite Warisan accepting seven former PCS senior members.

He said their departures from PCS last month were expected and had no impact on the opposition party.

“I wish them good luck,” he said, claiming that they had been in secret engagements with Warisan while still in PCS.

“We are open for talks but it must be equitable. If Warisan wants to control the seat allocations then it would be difficult,” he added in a statement yesterday.

He said Warisan was adamant about fielding candidates in 42 of the 60 state seats in Sabah.

On April 2, Warisan president Shafie Apdal had announced that a seat-sharing arrangement with Pakatan Harapan for the general election had been finalised.

Yesterday Warisan announced that seven of eight former PCS members had joined the party: ex-deputy presidents Paul Voon, Richard Gunting, Nicholas James Guntobon, former PCS youth chief Hasmin Azroy Abdullah, information chief Ramdi Indang and former supreme councillors Alex Lai Yun Thiam and Michael Jaikul.

They were among other PCS members who handed in membership forms at Warisan events in Keningau and Penampang on Friday.

The eighth person in the PCS exodus, Pinus Gondili, was not part of the group.

In Keningau, Gunting said that they chose to join Warisan as it was the dominant local opposition party and had the largest following.

In Penampang, Lo alleged that PCS’ Moyog division previously headed by him had been dissolved and all its members had agreed to join Warisan, and more PCS members would be ditching the party.

However, Bumburing said this was untrue and that a majority of the members remained.

“In fact the Moyog members came to see me a few days before he (Lo) resigned from the party and they told me they passed a vote of no confidence on Lo. We sent the letter of his termination as the PCS coordinator for Moyog on the day he quit,” Bumburing said.
