Two more state assemblies are dissolved

8 of 12 states have announced dissolution, paving the way for the general election.

PETALING JAYA: Two more states, Pahang and Kelantan, have announced the dissolution of their state legislatures, in preparation for the general election.

Eight of the 12 states eligible to hold state elections have now announced they would do so. Sarawak has traditionally held separate elections to its state assembly, and voters there will only choose their MPs when the general election is held soon.

In Kota Bahru, Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob said the Regent of Kelantan had given his consent at an audience last night, and the state assembly stands dissolved from today.

In Kuantan, Pahang menteri besar Adnan Yaakob said the Regent of Pahang had consented this morning to the dissolution of the state assembly from today.

The notice of dissolution would be sent to the Speaker of the assembly who would forward it to the Election Commission, he said.

Earlier today, the Election Commission said notices had only been received from four states so far, and the commission would be unable to set the dates for nominations and for polling until all states had done so. Parliament stands dissolved from today.

Pahang has 42 seats in the state assembly: In 2013, Barisan Nasional won 30, DAP (7), PAS (3), and PKR (2).

However the PAS assemblyman for Kuala Semantan left to join Parti Amanah Negara in September 2015.

Of the 14 parliamentary seats, BN won 10 in 2013, PKR (2), and DAP and PAS one each.
