Kedah assembly dissolved from today

Menteri besar says dissolution is to allow for simultaneous state and parliamentary elections.

Kedah menteri besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah announced that the state assembly has been dissolved today to enable joint state and parliamentary elections.

He made the announcement at Istana Darul Aman in Kuala Lumpur after receiving the consent of Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah.

Kedah is the ninth state to announce dissolution of the state assembly, following Parliament’s dissolution today.

The state has 1.2 million voters. At the 2013 general election, voters returned Barisan Nasional to 21 seats in the 36-member house, PAS (9), PKR (4), DAP (2).

Of the parliamentary seats, Barisan Nasional were returned in 10 seats, PKR (4) and PAS (1).
