Pakatan to use PKR logo for general election

Mahathir says recent action against PPBM was because Najib is afraid of Pakatan united under one symbol.

JOHOR BAHRU:
All Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates will contest the general election under the PKR banner and logo, Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced tonight.

Speaking at a ceramah, he said: “Because we can’t use a PH logo, all four of us have decided to use the PKR symbol to fight Najib.

“It is not easy to convince all parties to drop their own symbols. DAP has used their symbol for 60 years. I am extremely happy because this was not achieved before.”

PH has not received approval to register as a formal party, while Dr Mahathir’s own party, PPBM, received a notice of a 30-day dissolution, for alleged irregularities in its records, thus ruling out use of its symbol.

DAP said this week that it would give its well-known “rocket” symbol “a rest” for the sake of a common front.

Dr Mahathir said Barisan Nasional (BN) under Najib Razak was “afraid that the opposition will be contesting under one logo. We are committed to using one symbol. When Najib saw PKR, PPBM, Amanah and DAP united and that we were strong, he became afraid that we could win and BN lose.

“He was most afraid of PPBM because he is hoping on Malay votes but the Malays are supporting us. This is why he outlawed PPBM and PH. We rejected the notice we received and this is why I still wear PPBM clothes, have meetings and meet the press.”
