Trial of ex-Water Dept head, 3 others put off to May 7

They have been charged with a combined total of 183 counts of money laundering, involving nearly RM100 million.

The money laundering trial involving a former Sabah Water Department (JANS) director and three others has been postponed to May.

According to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy public prosecutor Tengku Amir Zaki Tengku Abdul Rahman, the prosecution and defence were notified in a letter, dated March 28 from the Sessions Court here, that the case, fixed for trial today, had been rescheduled to May 7-11.

The trial is expected to be heard before judge Abu Bakar Manat.

Former JANS director Awang Mohd Tahir Mohd Talib, 54, his wife, Fauziah Piut, 51, former JANS deputy director Teo Chee Kong, 52, and another former deputy director, Lim Lam Beng, 62, will be tried for a combined total of 183 counts of money laundering, involving nearly RM100 million.

They allegedly committed the offences through power abuse in the implementation of federal-funded projects by JANS between 2010 and 2016.
