KUALA LUMPUR:
James Lee Chong Meng, the oldest Malaysian climber on his third attempt to conquer Mount Everest, arrived in Lukla, north-eastern Nepal today.

According to his spokesperson, Lee, 70, left for Kathmandu yesterday to trek to Everest Base Camp.

During his first attempt to scale Mount Everest in May 2016, Lee had to abort the climb in the final stage at Camp 3, at a height of 7,200m, due to bad weather.

In his second attempt, he failed to proceed after experiencing chest pains and breathing difficulties at Camp 2, at a height of 5,545m.

Mount Everest is the world’s tallest peak, standing 8,848m high.

The mission, officially dubbed Mount Everest Summit Challenge, is sponsored by Scientex Berhad.

Lee hopes to inspire people of all ages to be active in society. He also wants to draw attention to preservation of the environment.
