According to an executive of China Auto Manufacturers (CAM), most camping sites in the country are well equipped to cater to caravans but the facilities are poorly maintained.
“Sometimes they don’t work at all,” said Chin Li Gwee, CAM’s head of marketing and business development.
He said this was a pity because caravanning was slowly growing in popularity and had the potential to encourage the growth of the tourism industry.
The CAM Caravan, the first Malaysian-built mobile home, was launched in November 2015.
Chin said the demand for caravans was still low, but added: “We do get a lot of positive feedback and questions when we are out there.
“There are even people who have voiced interest in venturing into the caravan business.”
He said customers used the caravan not only for leisure, but also for business and in the organisation of public events.
“Our caravan needs only a normal water hose to fill up the water tank and a household single phase electricity plug point to power up the A/C and induction cooker,” he added.
