Sue me, Wee dares Guan Eng over Penang tunnel remarks

KUALA LUMPUR:
MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong has challenged Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to sue him if the latter believes he has issued fake statements on the state’s undersea tunnel project.

Wee said the statements he had made about the project were based on the chief minister’s own remarks.

“Please sue me. All this while I have been using his previous statements to justify my claims.

“Whatever he said before has become my evidence in my press statements. He can deny them or say they are irrelevant (but they are based on his statements),” he told reporters after launching a Malaysia-China Tourism forum at Wisma MCA today.

Wee was asked to comment on DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang’s statement that he had undermined the Penang government by continuously scrutinising the undersea tunnel project.

Both Wee and Guan Eng have been engaged in arguments over the Penang undersea tunnel and three roads project.

Earlier this month, Wee, who is a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, challenged Guan Eng to a debate on the project but the chief minister said he would only debate MCA president Liow Tiong Lai.

Guan Eng had said that under political protocol, only Liow, as the top leader of MCA, was of equal standing with him.

Wee said today that he would go to Penang if the chief minister had the guts to face him.

“I can set up a venue and put out a VIP seat just for him to explain.

“Do not give me the protocol excuse again.”

He also accused DAP of being “consistently inconsistent” on its stand against MCA.

“Kulai MP (Teo Nie Ching) said earlier this year that DAP would ‘finish off’ MCA, and they are on a mission to terminate us. But two weeks later, Lim Kit Siang clarified there was no such thing.

“Then Guan Eng said on Saturday that DAP will ‘eliminate’ Barisan Nasional after he announced DAP’s Bakri candidate,” he said.

Wee also questioned why DAP was only contesting against MCA and Gerakan in the coming election instead of challenging Umno.

“If they said they are going against Umno, why did they not go to the Umno seats?”
