KUALA LUMPUR:
Members of the public are advised to be more careful regarding the weather during the monsoon transition period which begins tomorrow.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET), in a statement today, said that the monsoon transitional phase would continue until mid-May 2018, which would be the conclusion of the north-east monsoon season.

“During this period, the country will experience winds, blowing from various directions, at low speeds.

“During this period, there will be heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds, especially in the afternoon and early in the night,” the statement added.

These will occur more frequently in the coastal areas of the east coast states and the interior of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah’s west coast and the western and central areas of Sarawak.

The department warned that thunderstorms together with heavy rain and strong winds could lead to flash floods and destruction of weak structures.

Members of the public can obtain the latest weather information on the MET website www.metgov.my, the mobile application myCuaca, Rakan MET, at Facebook Malaysiamet and Twitter @malaysianmet, SMS 15888 or the hotline number 1300 22 1MET (1638).
