Selangor BN chairman Noh Omar said the licence would be abolished as the charge imposed was high.
He said this had resulted in the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (KLIM) having to fork out RM4 million for the licences.
“In Selangor alone, there are 51 fishing jetties and the federal government, through LKIM, has to allocate about RM4 million to pay the fees for the TOL,” he told reporters after opening the “Gelombang Nelayan Nasional” programme here today.
Present was LKIM chairman Irmohizam Ibrahim.
Noh said LKIM had been paying the fees for the TOL of the fishing jetties since the PKR-led government took over the administration in Selangor.
He said the money could have been spent by LKIM to help the 5,000 fishermen in Selangor.
“It is us (federal government) that forks out money to build the jetties, give cost of living allowance and repair the fishermen’s houses.
“The state government only imposes charges and taxes,” he added.
