PETALING JAYA:
Pressure group Hindraf has accused Barisan Nasional (BN) of being behind a rowdy group who attempted to stop its joint ceramah with DAP in Labis, Johor last night.

It said the police had also failed to stop the group from disrupting the event, despite a police permit given to organisers.

“Instead of controlling the thugs, the police joined them to ask the event be stopped,” it said.

The event was attended by Hindraf chairman Waythamoorthy and Penang Deputy Chief Minister P. Ramasamy.

The group questioned the police for asking it to stop the ceramah.

“Despite seeing our papers, which are all in order we were asked to stop the ceramah.”

Waytha insisted that the event would go on, and refused to stop his speech.

“This a new tactic used by BN as they find Hindraf making inroads into marginal seats a threat,” Waytha said today when contacted.

On Friday, Waytha lodged a police report after claiming he received threats against his family, following a Hindraf event which featured Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said he received a call some four hours after the event, with a caller threatening to harm his family.

Last year, two men had allegedly broken into his office in Seremban. A Hindraf spokesman said one of the men had warned Waytha “not to mess around with the government”.
