Shahrir said the promises made by the opposition pact to Felda settlers were also unreasonable and showed that PH did not understand Felda’s system or governance.
“For example, in their commitment, (Pakatan Harapan) is seeking to erase 50% of existing settlers’ debts, while there are over 7,000 settlers who have no debt at all.
“Imagine, if a RM5,000 debt was removed for settlers who owed money, how about those with zero debt? This would be unfair to them, and the amount of debt also differs from one settler to another,” he said during a special press conference called to address the PH manifesto regarding Felda at Menara Felda, here.
He said BN’s approach was more holistic and benefited all settlers, where those with debts had them reduced by RM5,000, and those with zero debt would receive RM5,000 in cash.
In its recently launched manifesto, PH had put forward five special commitments for Felda settlers, including restructuring the governance of Felda, defending the fate of settlers, and reducing their burdens.
