“Once we become state executive councillors or ministers, we must and we will declare our assets.
“That is DAP’s stand,” the party’s publicity chief said after a press conference with DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang at the media centre in Parliament today.
Pua, the MP for Petaling Jaya Utara, was asked to comment on Amanah president Mohamad Sabu joining dozens of elected representatives and possible Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates in declaring their assets yesterday.
Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, was the only party president from the coalition’s four component parties to do so.
In his declaration, he listed RM105,000 as the amount of money he currently possessed, including a fixed deposit account.
He also owns five properties, including the house he currently resides in which is under the name of his wife, Normah Alwi, as well as a house in Sepang valued at RM300,000 for which he still owes the bank RM70,000.
All in, he and his wife own property valued at RM758,000, including two plots of land in rural Penang and Perak.
He also has some RM220,000 in current market value of unit trusts and insurance, although his Tabung Haji account balance is a mere RM600.
At the session last night, Invoke founder Rafizi Ramli said some representatives did not want to declare their assets, either because they were ashamed or they were worried.
“There are those who are poor and are shy because they only have RM1,000, while there are those who are afraid that if they declare so much then people will ask for money,” he quipped.
