GEORGE TOWN:
Rafidah Aziz today lashed out after being accused of abusing approved permits (APs) when she was international trade and industry minister.

Although she did not name who the writer was, she was believed to be referring to a post by controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin yesterday, titled “Rafidah, Queen of the APs”.

She took to Facebook to voice her displeasure at the claims, calling them “slander”.

“Do they think the APs belong to my grandfather, to dish out to all and sundry? Don’t ever taint the good name of Miti that I helmed for 21 years.

“The AP issue was a non-issue. I have explained in Parliament, no less! Please check the Parliament Hansard before you try to slander me.

“Do not be driven by malice, and do not simply whack,” she said.

Raja Petra, in his blog, claimed that Rafidah abused her power as a minister to give out APs to cronies.

Rafidah refuted all the allegations, saying she was not afraid of “puny humans, especially those mired in filthy muck and with malice in their hearts”.

“I only fear the Almighty God. His wrath and retribution. We all have to die one day. Better to die for my country, than to die after betraying and bringing shame to my country,” she said.

Rafidah, who was former Wanita Umno chief, also stated that she was not one to talk rubbish, but only on issues that affected the people and the country.

“I will speak out when I see things going wrong, and when they bring problems and shame to the people and the country.

“I will speak out when issues arise and when people holding public trust give confusing and downright ridiculous explanations, denials and overkill defences, which no one can believe,” she said.

Rafidah also poured scorn on the “People First” mantra trumpeted by Barisan Nasional, stating how the people would be the first to be directly impacted by issues and problems.

“People First? Really? They are the first to be negatively impacted. The first to bear the burden. The first to feel the shame of what some people say or do.

“The first to bear the brunt of the effect from anything that turns out messy and problematic,” she said, without referring to any specific issue in the country being “messy and problematic”.

Rafidah recently took Malaysian authorities to task for being unable to find businessman Low Taek Jho’s yacht The  Equanimity, claiming she herself had managed to spot it while on a diving trip in Thailand.

However, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun later confirmed that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had never contacted him for his cooperation in the investigations into The Equanimity, which was seized in Bali last week.

Indonesian police confirmed that the collaborative efforts regarding the seizure of the Equanimity did not involve Malaysia.
