KOTA KINABALU:
Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) has suggested that the opposition in Sabah emulate the seat-sharing formula practised by Pakatan Harapan in the peninsula.

PCS president Wilfred Bumburing said under the PH concept, no one party is allotted more than 50% of the parliamentary seats.

He said, similarly, no one political party must contest more than 50% of the state seats in Sabah, considering that a possible coalition of more than four opposition political parties could be formed.

Speaking after the PCS supreme council meeting here today, Bumburing said while all opposition parties had adopted a multiracial concept, they should consider that generally voters are still very much into race-based politics.

“Voters tend to cast their votes along racial lines. It is therefore envisaged that political parties will select their seat constituency using the same perspective,” he said.

At the supreme council meeting today, the PCS leadership unanimously voted to give Bumburing absolute authority to negotiate with Warisan, PH or any other like-minded opposition political parties in forming a pact.

This pact is to ensure a winning formula to face-off with BN in the 14th general election (GE14).

In April last year, PCS pulled out of the five-party local opposition group Gabungan Sabah or United Sabah Alliance (USA).

Bumburing said the party supreme council decided to leave the two-year-old coalition so that it can better facilitate a better working relationship with all Sabah opposition parties to achieve straight fights against the ruling government.

The USA alliance consists Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR) led by Jeffrey Kitingan, Sabah Progressive Party led by Yong Teck Lee, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah led by Lajim Ukin and Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah (PPRS) led by Arshad Abdul Mualap.
