In an interview with The Star, the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) CEO said he believed he could play a role in improving Malaysia’s governance.
However, he added that the party had yet to confirm anything with him.
He did not provide further details on which party he would be joining, saying only that he was happy to follow its decision in the matter.
Wan Saiful, who founded IDEAS, will be leaving the think tank tomorrow after nine years at the helm.
In his statement announcing his departure on Feb 22, he said he wanted to take his passion to a “wider audience”.
He told The Star that his decision to leave PAS came after “several unexpected conversations with leaders of different political parties” following a column he had written on Feb 13 titled “It’s high time for a shift to policy”.
In it, he had criticised what he saw as rampant hypocrisy in the country’s politics.
“PAS has warped into their 1980s thinking. Identity politics still dominate. We are overly fixated with the past. And we are not sufficiently debating the future,” he told the daily.
