KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman has announced funds worth more than RM600 million to help the development of Bumiputera entrepreneurs and businessmen in the state.

These funds will be made available through various programmes and initiatives planned for the Bumiputera business community through the state government and Teraju.

Teraju, or the Bumiputera Economic Empowerment Unit, is an agency under the Prime Minister’s Department.

It is tasked with leading, driving and coordinating the Bumiputera agenda as part of the National Transformation Plan.

Musa said two special funds have been made available, the first with RM100 million to help private business owners involved in agriculture and agro-tourism.

“As a state renowned worldwide for its nature, it is my hope the agro-tourism industry in Sabah will become the benchmark for this field in the country,” he said, after chairing the Bumiputera Economic Council meeting here today.

He said the second initiative comprised funding facilities and financial guarantees valued at RM500 million to assist Bumiputera contractors involved in the construction of the Pan Borneo highway in Sabah.

The funding facilities are prepared by RHB Islamic Bank Berhad and Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad (SME Bank).

The financial guarantee facilities are by Credit Guarantee Corporation and Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Berhad.

“This will help G1 to G4 class Bumiputera contractors. There are over 50 of these contractors who will benefit from the programme to elevate their qualifications and reliability,” he said.

Meanwhile, Musa said 69 projects under Teraju’s programme called “Dana Mudahcara” (facilitation fund), totalling more than RM169 million, had been approved, with 65 going to Sabah companies.

He said these projects would provide about 3,000 jobs in administration and management, electrical and engineering, and tourism in Sabah.

The chief minister also presented letters of approval to nine Sabah Bumiputera contractors whose projects totalling RM38 million have been approved under this programme.

Teraju has also signed an agreement with the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia) to work with four local NGOs to maximise development support for Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

These NGOs are the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federation of Sabah Industries, Malay Chamber of Commerce (Sabah) and Sabah Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber.
