PETALING JAYA:
Umno’s Setiawangsa division chief Zulhasnan Rafique says he is prepared to serve the public again as an elected legislator if selected by Barisan Nasional (BN) to run in the 14th general election (GE14).

The Malaysian ambassador to the US said he left it to Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is BN chairman, to make the choice.

“He introduces the candidates (for BN) prior to every election and we (BN members) will abide by the decision,” Zulhasnan was quoted as saying by Berita Harian yesterday.

“If it is fated, then God willing I am ready,” he said when asked if he intended to contest in the polls which are due by August, and if he was ready to run again, especially in the Setiawangsa parliamentary constituency.

Zulhasnan, who was appointed as ambassador in December 2016, was Wangsa Maju MP from 1999 to 2004 and Setiawangsa MP from 2004 to 2013.

He was also Federal Territories minister from 2006 to 2009, after having served as a deputy minister in the same ministry two years before.

The Setiawangsa seat is now held by BN’s Ahmad Fauzi Zahari, who is Setiawangsa Umno’s deputy chief.
