PETALING JAYA: Malaysian consumers’ search for goods on the Shoppe e-commerce platform jumped 32% during the Chinese New Year festive period this year.

This is in line with the growing consumer inclination to make purchases online.

Shopee Malaysia regional managing director Ian Ho added that the spike in the number of searches indicated the trend of consumers opting to shop online for their festive requirements.

He said Malaysians were now also able to find convenience and cost-savings by shopping online.

“This is a good sign and is in line with the government’s initiatives to drive forward e-commerce in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.

Ho said more Malaysians had turned to the platform for their festive necessities since the launch of its campaign on Jan 15 which offered discounts of up to 90% and contest prizes worth more than RM1 million.

He said it provided users with a fast, convenient and secure way to shop, with free shipping across Malaysia and with no commissions involved.
