GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today hit back at MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong for claiming he wanted to contest in the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat in Johor in the upcoming 14th general elections (GE14).

Lim, in responding to Wee’s claim, denied ever saying that he wanted to contest the seat, currently held by Wee.

Lim reminded Wee that the latter was second in the pecking order in MCA, and in terms of equal footing, “it should be between number one and number one”.

“Wee Ka Siong said he heard that I wanted to contest in Ayer Hitam. Now, when did I ever say that?

“Please do not use me to do your self-promotion. This is completely unacceptable and dishonest.

“You must remember you are number two in MCA. If there is any parity, it should be between the top leaders.

“I have never said that. As the Penang chief minister, I have to be here to lead the state,” he told a press conference after launching the Asia Pacific Masters Games in Komtar here today.

Lim was commenting on remarks made by Wee, who claimed that he had heard Lim Kit Siang was going to contest in Ayer Hitam. This was reported in The Star today.

“We also heard that Penang Chief Minister (Lim) Guan Eng wants to contest for the seat (Ayer Hitam),” Wee was quoted as saying by the daily.

Lim also called out Wee for being dishonest in making such a claim.

“It is only the fourth day of Chinese New Year. Please do not start lying on the fourth day of Chinese New Year,” he said.
